About the Composer: Brian Balmages
Brian Balmages has established himself as a composer and conductor working across orchestral, band, and chamber music with equal fluency. His works have been heard in some of the world's most prestigious halls, from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House, performed by ensembles ranging from professional orchestras to elementary school groups. He holds the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association, won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest, and serves as an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association.
Balmages has received distinguished recognition from both his alma maters: James Madison University presented him with its inaugural Distinguished Alumni Award from the School of Visual and Performing Arts, and the University of Miami commissioned him to compose for the inauguration of its 6th president. His music was performed at the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service. As a conductor, he maintains active relationships with all-state ensembles, university groups, and professional orchestras worldwide, with notable guest conducting at the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, and numerous ASTA conferences. He currently serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
