About the Composer: Bob Phillips

Bob Phillips has spent decades shaping string education through composition and large-group pedagogy. Since the 1970s, he has authored over 25 curricula for classroom use, including the complete Sound Innovations series across all six levels, and pioneered eclectic styles publications like Jazz Philharmonic, Rock Philharmonic, and Mariachi Philharmonic that have reached thousands of student musicians annually.

For 27 years, Phillips directed the string program in Saline, Michigan, growing it to over 700 students and establishing it as a national model for classical and contemporary repertoire. He founded the Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic, which performed internationally and at the White House, and has conducted all-state orchestras, youth symphonies, and honors ensembles across the country. An ASCAP award-winning composer with over 200 published works, Phillips remains a frequent presence at the Midwest Clinic and continues to influence string pedagogy through his instructional materials and clinics.
