About the Composer: Gary Fagan

Gary Fagan has built a distinctive voice in band composition while maintaining deep roots in music education. A Virginia native, he earned degrees in Music Education from Bridgewater College and in a graduate program at James Madison University, then spent 36 years directing bands in Albemarle County before transitioning to university supervision and adjunct teaching in arranging. His works have been performed at prestigious venues including the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic and the White House, earning recognition through multiple Outstanding Educator Awards and listings in Who's Who Among America's Teachers.

Fagan's contribution to the band world extends far beyond composing. He serves as a clinician, adjudicator, and arranger for both band and string orchestra, holds membership in ASCAP and the National Band Association, and currently plays percussion with the Charlottesville Band while serving as its Assistant Director. His compositions reflect his decades of classroom experience, consistently addressing the developmental needs of young musicians while maintaining musical substance.
