About the Arranger: Paul Langford

Paul Langford

Paul Langford splits his time between the recording studio and the podium, building a thirty-year career as a composer, arranger, and conductor from his base in Chicago. His arrangements have been performed by major orchestras including San Antonio, Calgary, and West Michigan symphonies, and his work reaches audiences through theme parks, film and television projects, and ensembles worldwide. He's collaborated as a pianist and vocalist with David Foster, Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, and other major recording artists, and he regularly serves as guest music director for Chicago A Cappella.

Langford's publishing credits span Alfred Music, Hal Leonard, Shawnee Press, and Oxford University Press. Beyond composition, he owns Paul Langford Studios, a full-service recording facility where he continues to produce and arrange for corporate clients and performing artists. His work as a guest conductor and clinician keeps him connected directly to choirs and bands across North America and beyond.

Why we love this

Langford's ear for the pop idiom shines through in this arrangement, which respects the original melody's infectious charm while giving your SAB voices clear, singable lines that work together. The 13-page score provides enough substance to feel like a substantial holiday offering without demanding months of rehearsal, making it ideal for groups building a December program on a realistic timeline.

What to expect

Warmth and celebration flow through this setting. The arrangement captures the original's joyful simplicity while expanding it with richer harmonic support, creating a performance that feels both familiar and fresh. Your audience will recognize the tune immediately, but hear your choir's voices bringing it to life in a new way.

Who it's for

This arrangement works for any choir looking to add a contemporary holiday piece to their repertoire. It sits well for developing mixed voices and gives less experienced singers accessible music that still sounds polished and programmatic.

How to get the most out of it

  • Balance the text clarity with the pop feel; these lyrics deserve to land, so articulate the consonants cleanly without sacrificing the groove.
  • Let the accompaniment establish the rhythmic pocket first, then have singers lock into that foundation rather than pushing ahead.
  • Treat the Spanish phrases with authentic vowel shapes to honor the song's cultural origin and add textural variety to your performance.

How to use it

Open your holiday concert with this piece to establish an inclusive, feel-good tone, or place it later in the program as a contrast to more traditional Christmas fare. Its pop sensibility and bilingual text make it especially effective when programming music that reflects the diverse communities your choir serves.

Skills your students will build

  • Rhythmic precision in a contemporary pop context
  • Balancing harmony lines at multiple dynamic levels
  • Singing with clear diction in both English and Spanish
  • Maintaining groove and pocket in an ensemble setting
