About the Composer: Roland Barrett
Roland Barrett holds faculty positions in music theory and composition at the University of Oklahoma, where he has taught since 2001. His background as Assistant Director of Bands for fifteen years informs both his classroom instruction in twentieth-century theory and composition and his ongoing work as musical arranger for the Pride of Oklahoma marching band. Barrett has composed and arranged over two hundred works for symphonic band, chamber ensembles, and marching band, earning multiple ASCAP Plus awards and recognition from the Michael Hennagin Memorial Scholarship in Composition.
His music reaches far beyond the university. All-State, All-Region, and All-District Honor Bands regularly perform his compositions, and his work has been featured on NPR and the USA cable network. The Dallas Wind Symphony has championed his writing, and his pieces have appeared at the Midwest Band & Orchestra Convention, the National Trumpet Competition, and the International Trumpet Guild Convention.
