About the Composer: Brian Balmages
Brian Balmages has established himself as a composer and conductor with a rare ability to move seamlessly between orchestral, band, and chamber contexts. His works have been performed by ensembles of all levels, from elementary school groups to professional orchestras, in landmark venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Sydney Opera House. He is an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association and received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association for his contributions to band music.
Balmages' honors include winning the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest and receiving the inaugural James Madison University Distinguished Alumni Award from the School of Visual and Performing Arts. His music has appeared at the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service and has been commissioned by major institutions. As a conductor, he regularly appears with all-state ensembles, university groups, and professional orchestras worldwide, and currently serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
