About the Composer: Timothy Loest
Timothy Loest has spent over thirty years shaping young musicians in the classroom while establishing himself as a prolific composer whose works are performed internationally. His music combines accessibility with musical substance, earning recognition from the Illinois Grade School Music Association, which awarded him the prestigious Cloyd Myers Memorial Award for Excellence in Music Education in 2017. That same year, his composition Cloud Gate (Reflections of a City) reached over 5,000 spectators during its premiere at Chicago's Millennium Park.
Loest's contributions to music education extend beyond composition to pedagogical innovation. He has developed or collaborated on several widely adopted methods, including Measures of Success: A Comprehensive Musicianship Band Method, Warm-ups and Beyond, Rhythms and Beyond, and Chorales and Beyond. His commissions and original works have appeared on network television programs including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Good Morning America, and others. In 2022, he founded Fanfare Music Press to continue publishing compositions and arrangements of the highest caliber for band. Loest holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Illinois State University and a Master of Music from Northwestern University, and maintains membership in ASCAP.
