About the Composer: Brian Balmages
Brian Balmages has established himself as a composer and conductor working across orchestral, band, and chamber music with equal fluency. His works have been performed by groups ranging from professional orchestras to elementary ensembles in major venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Sydney Opera House. He holds the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association and won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest. An elected member of the American Bandmasters Association, Balmages received the inaugural James Madison University Distinguished Alumni Award and was commissioned by the University of Miami to compose music for the inauguration of the university's sixth president.
As a conductor, Balmages maintains regular engagements with all-state and regional ensembles, university groups, and professional orchestras worldwide. His guest conducting appearances span the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, College Band Directors Conference, and numerous international venues. Currently, he serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
