About the Composer: Richard Meyer

Richard Meyer brings three decades of string instruction across elementary, middle, and high school settings into his compositions, understanding exactly what young orchestras need to sound accomplished. His tenure directing orchestras at Oak Avenue Intermediate School in Temple City, California saw the program expand from 29 to 200 students over 22 years, and he later shaped the city's elementary string curriculum. Beyond the classroom, Meyer served as music director of the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra for 16 years, leading performances across North America, Europe, and Australia.

Meyer's work as a composer and arranger has resulted in over 190 published pieces, and he spent 16 years as string editor at Alfred Publishing Company. He developed the String Explorer Series and Sight-read It for Strings as co-author, resources now used in countless programs. His "Giving Bach" initiative, launched in 2009 at his school, earned national recognition for using interactive concerts to engage special needs and underserved students throughout Southern California. Meyer continues to work as a guest conductor and clinician, presenting at the A.S.T.A. National Conference, regional orchestra director associations, and string workshops nationwide.
