About the Composer: Michael Oare
Michael Oare brings three decades of hands-on experience in music education to his compositions. Trained in both composition and pedagogy at Old Dominion University, he spent 33 years directing bands at Great Bridge Middle School in Virginia, where his ensembles earned superior ratings on nearly every Virginia assessment performance. His works appear in the respected Teaching Music Through Performance series, and he has been honored as the 2016 Chesapeake Public Schools Middle School Teacher of the Year and twice received the National Band Association's Citation of Excellence.
Currently conductor of the Bay Youth Orchestras Concert Band and an active member of the Virginia Wind Symphony, Oare writes from deep knowledge of what young musicians can accomplish and what keeps them engaged. His dual expertise in classroom instruction and compositional craft means every note serves a pedagogical purpose alongside musical substance.
