George Peter Tingley

George Peter Tingley grew up in the Oakland area and discovered composition early, writing songs at the piano by age ten. After formal training in piano performance at California State University, Hayward, and advanced degrees in music theory from USC, he studied privately with Nadia Boulanger in Paris during the 1970s, an experience that shaped his compositional voice.

Since 1989, Tingley has focused on writing for music students, with over 75 published piano pieces to his name. His work ranges from character pieces like the popular Reverie to orchestral commissions; he composed Kristi's Theme for Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi, which was arranged for symphony orchestra and performed in televised broadcasts. He maintains a private teaching studio in Point Richmond, California.
