About the Composer: Joel Raney

Joel Raney learned piano before he learned to read, and his formative years in a rural Alabama Baptist church shaped a compositional voice rooted in gospel warmth and accessibility. He earned his bachelor's degree in choral conducting from the University of North Alabama and later completed a master's degree in piano performance at Juilliard, grounding his prolific output in serious musical training.

Since 1999, Raney has established himself as one of the most performed composers in American churches, with over 300 published works across choral anthems, musicals, cantatas, handbell compositions, and instrumental music. His dual expertise in commercial composition (including soundtracks for over 2000 television and radio spots) and classical keyboard performance informs his distinctive arranging sensibility. He currently serves as Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church of Oak Park, Illinois, and remains an active clinician, recitalist, and recording artist.
