Benjamin Harlan serves as Dean of the School of Church Music at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, where his decades of work in sacred music have shaped countless musicians and composers. His output spans choral works, keyboard compositions, and handbell arrangements published by major music houses; since 1990, ASCAP has recognized his contributions annually. His academic credentials include degrees from Baylor University and a doctorate from SBTS, and he maintains active membership in the American Choral Directors Association and the Southern Baptist Church Music Conference.
Before his current leadership role, Harlan held positions as Associate Professor of Church Music at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and directed music programs at several significant Baptist churches across Louisiana and Texas. His deep investment in both the theoretical and practical dimensions of church music reflects a career built on mentorship, publication, and service to the profession.
