About the Composer: Roland Barrett

Roland Barrett

Roland Barrett has shaped band music through dual roles as educator and prolific composer. Since 2001, he has taught music theory and composition at the University of Oklahoma, where his work centers on 20th century topics at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Beyond the classroom, Barrett arranges for the Pride of Oklahoma marching band and has published over two hundred original compositions and arrangements for symphonic band, chamber ensembles, and marching groups.

His music reaches far beyond the university; his works have been performed by the Dallas Wind Symphony, countless All-State and All-Region Honor Bands, and broadcast on National Public Radio. His compositions have been featured at the Midwest Band & Orchestra Convention, the National Trumpet Competition, and the International Trumpet Guild convention. Barrett is a multiple ASCAPlus Award recipient and has received the Michael Hennagin Memorial Scholarship in Composition.
