About the Arranger: Greg Gilpin

Greg Gilpin

Greg Gilpin has established himself as both a prolific choral arranger and an accomplished conductor, earning ASCAP recognition for his contributions to the field. His work has taken him to major performance venues across the globe, from Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York to the Sydney Opera House, Royal Festival Hall in London, and venues throughout North America. Beyond his compositional and conducting work, Gilpin serves as Director of Educational Choral Publications for Shawnee Press, where he shapes choral literature for students and ensembles at all levels.

Gilpin's career reflects a commitment to both the musical and organizational sides of choral life. In addition to his work as a composer and arranger, he has earned certification as a financial coach and professional organizer, bringing the same attention to detail that defines his music to other creative pursuits. He holds membership in ACDA, NAfME, SAG-AFTRA, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Why we love this

Gilpin's arrangement captures the celebratory spirit of holiday carols while keeping the vocal writing accessible for mixed ensembles. The SAB voicing ensures every singer contributes meaningfully to the texture, and the PartTrax accompaniment gives you flexibility in rehearsal and performance without requiring a live pianist or full band.

What to expect

This arrangement brings warmth and comfort characteristic of traditional carols while maintaining clarity and forward motion. The familiar melodies shine through in a fresh setting, creating a festive backdrop that invites audiences into the holiday spirit without overwhelming the singers.

Who it's for

Directors programming holiday concerts with mixed voice choirs of any skill level will find this arrangement both singable and engaging. The SAB voicing works well for high school choirs, community groups, and church choirs seeking straightforward yet musical holiday material that doesn't require extensive rehearsal time.

How to get the most out of it

  • Balance the arrangement by bringing out melody lines in the soprano part while letting alto and baritone parts support without oversinging.
  • Use the recorded accompaniment as a learning tool in early rehearsals so singers can internalize their parts independently before moving to full ensemble blend.
  • Keep the holiday spirit energized and bright; resist the urge to drag the tempo even during fuller, denser moments of the arrangement.
  • Let the PartTrax file guide phrasing and articulation decisions in rehearsal, then work toward singing independently of the accompaniment before performance.

How to use it

Open a holiday concert with this uplifting selection to establish a joyful, welcoming mood, or use it as a strong closer that leaves audiences humming as they leave. The accessibility and appeal of the arrangement make it an excellent choice for mixed-voice groups of varying experience levels preparing a December concert.

Skills your students will build

  • Blending part lines within a three-part texture
  • Following a recorded accompaniment while maintaining ensemble unity
  • Singing with clarity and confidence in a holiday context
