About the Composer: Ralph Ford
Ralph Ford brings together three decades of university teaching with a prolific career as a composer and arranger. Since 1999, he has served as an exclusive composer and arranger for the Belwin division of Alfred Music, producing over 250 titles across orchestra, concert band, jazz ensemble, and marching band that have been performed by school, community, military, and professional ensembles worldwide. His work extends well beyond the concert hall; he has composed and produced music for broadcast, television, and media production, earning international recognition for his commercial and animation work.
Ford's path to this breadth of experience began early. He started arranging professionally at fifteen and later directed the Jazz Ensemble at Troy State University while still an undergraduate. After completing his Master of Science degree in 1988, he taught orchestration, arranging, theory, and applied brass at the university level for fifteen years before transitioning fully to composition and arrangement work. His commissioned pieces reflect a deep understanding of what makes music accessible without sacrificing musical substance.
