Why we love this

This book cuts through the clutter of audition preparation by organizing essential technique into focused, manageable daily work. The concise explanations paired with practical practice suggestions mean students don't waste time deciphering theory or guessing how to practice; they get straight to purposeful work that builds confidence before competitions and evaluations.

What to expect

Straightforward and grounded. These warm-ups feel like the work itself, not busywork; there's clarity in each exercise and a sense that time spent here directly strengthens what matters most in performance.

Who it's for

Piano students preparing for auditions, festival play-throughs, and competitions who benefit from systematic, clearly organized warm-up material. Teachers seeking a resource that removes guesswork from technique assignments and gives students both the 'what' and the 'why' behind foundational patterns.

How to get the most out of it

  • Assign one five-finger pattern or scale per day and return to it across several weeks, spacing practice over time rather than cramming.
  • Have students rotate through the cadence examples to build ear recognition of harmonic movement, testing themselves on which progression they hear.
  • Create a weekly checklist of key signatures and arpeggios to track, giving students concrete accountability for coverage.

How to use it

Assign this as the backbone of weekly technique practice for students entering audition season or preparing for festival evaluations. The short page count makes it easy to integrate into lesson planning without overwhelming practice schedules, and students can revisit sections as needed in the weeks leading up to performance dates.

Skills your students will build

  • Five-finger pattern recognition and fluency across multiple keys
  • Scale technique and evenness of tempo through all keys and patterns
  • Arpeggio execution with consistent hand position and voice leading
  • Harmonic awareness through cadence study (I-IV-I, I-V-I, ii-V-I progressions)
  • Key signature mastery and transposition readiness
