About the Composer: William Owens

William Owens began his compositional career after earning his degree from VanderCook College of Music in 1985. Over the past three decades, he has established himself as one of the most prolific and respected voices in young band music, with more than 300 published works for concert band, string orchestra, and chamber ensembles. His compositions appear on festival lists and in educational curricula across North America, and several have become analytical case studies in music education texts.

Owens approaches composition from the perspective of a practicing educator. After 30 years as a band director in Texas, he understands the pedagogical demands and logistical realities of the rehearsal room. He holds memberships in ASCAP, Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity, and the Texas Music Educators Association, and has received commissions from regional colleges and the American Bandmasters Association. He currently resides in Fort Worth, Texas.
