Costume Party: Late Elementary / Early Intermediate Piano Book

Each character steps onto the stage with distinct personality. The music breathes with character quirks that make students grin as they play, turning practice into imaginative storytelling rather than technical drills.

Late elementary and early intermediate students who are ready for multi-page pieces and comfortable reading in at least five keys. This collection also works well for older students building confidence and sightreading fluency.

• Match the mood of each character to your touch and tempo choices. The Clown should bounce; the Pharaoh should feel grand and processional.
• Use the key changes across the collection as sightreading practice. Jumping between C major and F major trains students to recognize and adjust quickly.
• Layer pieces for a recital set. Programming Pirate followed by Mermaid or Vampire before Prince and Princess creates natural storytelling.

This is ideal Halloween concert material, but the pieces are engaging enough to program year-round. Consider featuring three or four contrasting characters on a spring recital, or assign one to each student in a class setting for a costume party performance where they come dressed as their piece's character.
