William Owens has spent three decades as a band director in Texas while building a catalog of over 300 works for young ensembles. A VanderCook College of Music graduate, he has become known for composing music that balances artistic integrity with practical classroom application. His works appear on festival and contest lists across the country, and he has been recognized with numerous awards including the Texas Bandmasters Association's Meritorious Achievement Award and Distinguished Alumnus honors from his alma mater.

Owens' approach to composition for beginning and intermediate bands reflects both his deep experience in the classroom and his understanding of what young musicians need to grow musically. His active involvement as a clinician and conductor throughout North America has kept him connected to the real demands of school music programs. Today based in Fort Worth, Texas, he continues to influence band programs nationwide through his prolific and pedagogically sound compositions.
