About the Composer: Beatrice A. Miller

Beatrice A. Miller grew up in Detroit surrounded by music and faith. Her father, a pastor and accomplished musician, anchored the family's evening traditions with hymn singing. Miller has recalled how her infant musical responsiveness to these hymns captivated her brothers and shaped her lifelong devotion to sacred music.

Miller earned her Master's degree in composition from Northwestern University. She spent decades teaching piano, directing choirs, and serving as church organist in Corvallis, Oregon before retiring from classroom work in 1979. She pivoted fully to composition and began publishing in 1987, earning the Oregon Music Teachers Association's Composer of the Year award in 1997.
