About the Composer: Loreta Fin

Loreta Fin AM trained at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and built a career as both performer and educator across Australia. She served as Principal Viola with the Queensland Pops Orchestra for more than 25 years while establishing herself as Director of Strings at Somerville House School in Brisbane since 1993, where she has shaped generations of young string players.

Beyond the classroom, Fin has been integral to Australia's string education infrastructure. She held leadership roles in the Australian Strings Association for over 25 years, served as State Advisor for Strings with the Australian Music Examinations Board, and adjudicated at major competitions nationwide. Her compositional output reflects her pedagogical focus: over 100 works for string orchestra published worldwide by Alfred Music, including beginner ensemble series designed specifically for young players. Her contributions to music education earned her the National Award for Services to Music and String Teaching from the Australian Strings Association.
