George Peter Tingley

George Peter Tingley began his musical journey on violin at age four, but found his true voice at the piano when he received one at age ten. His early years were shaped by intensive study with recordings—particularly the Beatles—and later by formal training at California State University, Hayward, and the University of Southern California, where he earned degrees in both piano performance and music theory. A pivotal chapter came in the 1970s when he studied composition privately with Nadia Boulanger in Paris, absorbing the discipline and craft that would define his later work.

After returning to the United States, Tingley established himself as both a private instructor and prolific composer for music education. Since 1989, he has published over 75 piano pieces, including the widely beloved Reverie and the duet collection Fiddle and the Tuba, which earned recognition from the National Federation of Music Clubs. His work extends beyond the studio: in 1992, he composed Kristi's Theme for Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi, a piece that was orchestrated and recorded with Tingley as piano soloist. Based in Point Richmond, California, he continues to write music that bridges the gap between accessibility and musical substance.
