About the Composer: Mary Donnelly

Mary Donnelly grew up in Reno, Nevada, and earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nevada, Reno with majors in English and French. After discovering her passion for music education while organizing children's choruses in college, she pursued formal training and completed a Master's Degree in Education from Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with a focus on arts integration across the curriculum.

Donnelly spent thirty years teaching general music and choir in the Washoe County School District, retiring after a full career in elementary and middle school classrooms. In 1985, she began collaborating with George Strid when they co-taught a sixth grade general music class and were asked to create a musical for Reading Week. That initial project sparked a prolific partnership that has produced over two hundred songs and twenty-five musicals. She holds memberships in ACDA, NEA, and ASCAP.
