Clark and Glover designed this book to move students beyond five-finger patterns into actual harmonic thinking without overwhelming them. The level-by-level progression means students encounter chords and key relationships at a pace that matches their technical growth, making it an ideal bridge between early pieces and more substantial repertoire.

Group piano students or private students who have completed Primer Level and can confidently play five-finger patterns and Major Triads by memory in most keys. Students ready to understand how chords function within keys and to apply that knowledge to actual pieces.

• Memorize the chord patterns in each key before moving to the pieces. This separates the harmonic learning from the reading task and builds real fluency.
• Practice the Major Triads in root position, first inversion, and second inversion separately before combining them in a piece. Muscle memory matters as much as sight-reading at this stage.
• Work through the five-finger pattern review in each new key before tackling the corresponding pieces. Two minutes of pattern review saves ten minutes of fumbling during practice.

Use this as the core curriculum for group piano classes in the first year or early second year. The 48-page scope works well across a full academic year or intensive summer program, with each lesson drawn from multiple sections as students progress.
