John Kinyon

John Kinyon earned degrees from Ithaca College and the Eastman School of Music, followed by an honorary doctorate from Limestone College. His career spans instrumental music direction, school district administration, music education leadership at Warner Brothers Music in New York, and faculty positions at the University of Miami.

Kinyon has emerged as one of the most prolific voices in educational band composition, with more than 250 published works ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 3. His output spans marches, ballads, overtures, and concert pieces that balance accessibility with genuine musical substance. Since 1982, he has worked from Tuckasegee while continuing to compose music designed specifically for student musicians.
