About the Composer: Richard Meyer

Richard Meyer spent 35 years in the classroom, building one of Southern California's most impressive string programs. At Oak Avenue Intermediate School in Temple City, he grew the orchestra from 29 students to 200 while simultaneously directing the city's elementary string initiative. His work with the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra over 16 years took ensembles across four continents, from Vienna to Australia, establishing him as both a mentor and a major figure in American string education.

Beyond the podium, Meyer has shaped music pedagogy as a string editor for Alfred Publishing and co-author of widely-used method books including the String Explorer Series. His "Giving Bach" program, launched in 2009, uses interactive concerts to reach special needs and underserved students throughout the region, earning national recognition for its innovative approach. With nearly 200 compositions and arrangements published, Meyer continues to write music that serves the real needs of string teachers and young musicians.
