About the Composer: Gary Fagan
Gary Fagan grew up in Maryland and earned his undergraduate degree in Music Education from Bridgewater College, followed by a master's degree from James Madison University. His compositions and arrangements have been heard at prestigious venues including the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the White House, and the gubernatorial inauguration of former Virginia Governor Douglas Wilder.
Fagan spent 36 years as a band director in Albemarle County before transitioning to university supervision at JMU, where he also teaches arranging. His contributions to music education have been recognized with the Central Virginia Outstanding Middle School Teacher award from the University of Virginia's Phi Delta Kappa chapter, the Outstanding Educator Award from the Virginia Governor's School for the Visual and Performing Arts, and distinction from the Piedmont Council of the Arts. He remains active as a clinician, adjudicator, and composer while serving as Assistant Director and percussionist with the Charlottesville Band. Fagan holds memberships in ASCAP, Phi Beta Mu Bandmasters Fraternity, and the National Band Association.
