About the Composer: Bob Phillips
Bob Phillips has shaped string education through both large-ensemble pedagogy and genre-crossing compositions. Since the 1970s, he has authored 25+ instructional series (including Sound Innovations and the Philharmonic eclectic-styles collections) and published over 200 orchestral and band works, all informed by his 27 years building a 700-student string program in Saline, Michigan that became a national model.
Phillips' work spans conducting, arranging, and commissioning. He founded the internationally touring Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic, served as resident conductor for Wintergrass Festival Seattle, and has conducted at all-state and honors orchestras across the country. His compositions receive regular performances at the Midwest Clinic, and his instructional videos (String Clinics to Go) reach thousands of teachers annually. He is an ASCAP award-winning composer whose music is performed by thousands of student musicians each year.
