About the Composer: Elena Roussanova Lucas

Elena Roussanova Lucas brings a Moscow-trained classical foundation to her work as a composer and educator. She entered the Central Music School's elite program at age three, later earning her Red Diploma in Composition from the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire of Music, where she studied under Tihon Khrennikov and Tatiana Choodova. Her music has been performed by major Russian orchestras, including the Tchakovsky State Orchestra of Moscow, and she has presented masterclasses in composition at the Conservatoire.

Based in the United States, Lucas is an active member of the United Russian Composers Union and currently teaches at Boston University. Her experience as both a pianist and composer informs her orchestral writing, which draws on the lyrical traditions of Russian classical music.
