About the Composer: Mary Donnelly

Mary Donnelly grew up in Reno, Nevada, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and French from the University of Nevada, Reno. While still an undergraduate, she organized two children's choruses, which sparked her passion for music education. She pursued formal training and received a Master's Degree in Education from Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she focused on integrating the arts across the curriculum.

Donnelly spent thirty years teaching general music and choir in the Washoe County School District, retiring after a rewarding career in elementary and middle school settings. In 1985, while team-teaching with George Strid, their principal challenged them to write a musical for Reading Week. That first collaboration, The Million Dollar Mystery, launched a prolific creative partnership that has produced over two hundred songs and twenty-five musicals. She remains active in ACDA, NEA, and ASCAP.
