More about this title

About the Composer: Andy Beck

Andy Beck

Andy Beck holds the position of Director of Choral Publications at Alfred Music, where he oversees a catalog of over 450 choral works, vocal resources, and children's musicals. His output spans from accessible sight-singing resources like Sing at First Sight and Foundations in Choral Sight Singing to comprehensive vocal pedagogy collections such as Vocalize! 45 Vocal Warm-Ups That Teach Technique. His compositions are performed regularly by singers across the globe, a testament to their accessibility and musicality.

Beck's engagement with music education extends far beyond publication. He serves as a guest conductor, choreographer, adjudicator, and clinician for educators and students throughout the United States and internationally, and has been commissioned to conduct honor choirs and all-state ensembles across the Southeast. A trained tenor with degrees in Music Education from Ithaca College and Northwest Missouri State University, Beck brings both compositional expertise and performance experience to his work. His tenure as an Alfred Music studio singer since 1992 reflects his commitment to the artistic standards that define his publications.

Why we love this

This digital download delivers a fully scored musical that celebrates multiple winter observances with genuine musical substance, not tokenism. The collaborative team of seasoned composers and arrangers ensures that every number serves both narrative purpose and pedagogical value, making it genuinely singable for Grade 3 and up ensembles. Having recorded accompaniments available means you can learn the score at your own pace and hear how the parts fit together before rehearsal.

What to expect

Inclusive, warm, and festive without sacrificing musical integrity. The score respects the significance of each holiday while maintaining an accessible, joyful tone that invites ensemble participation and audience connection.

Who it's for

Elementary and middle school choral programs seeking a winter musical that honors multiple cultural celebrations and traditions. Directors working with ensembles of mixed abilities will appreciate the Grade 3 and up designation, which accommodates younger singers without sacrificing musical interest for more advanced students.

How to get the most out of it

  • Study the recorded accompaniments first to understand the harmonic context and intended tempos, then have singers learn their lines separately before combining parts.
  • Build the choreography incrementally; introduce movement concepts early in rehearsal so students can integrate singing and staging without compromising vocal quality.
  • Use dress rehearsals with full costume and accompaniment to identify technical cues (lighting, set changes) that might distract singers and plan transitions accordingly.
  • Balance ensemble numbers with solo and small-group moments to showcase individual voices and maintain audience engagement throughout the show.

How to use it

Schedule this as your December concert centerpiece to acknowledge the diversity of winter celebrations within your school community. The digital format allows you to start learning the score immediately, making it ideal for programs that want to mount a full musical production without waiting for printed materials to arrive.

Skills your students will build

  • Reading and performing music with recorded accompaniment
  • Coordinate singing with choreography and staging cues
  • Part independence in ensemble textures
  • Musical interpretation of multiple cultural and religious traditions
  • Sustained vocal performance across a full dramatic work
