About the Composer: Edmund J. Siennicki
Edmund J. Siennicki grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, where at age 12 he met the legendary pianist Ignacy Jan Paderewski, a conversation that shaped his entire musical path. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Kent State University, where he composed Fight on for KSU, a piece still performed at the university's football games. In 1994, Kent State honored him with the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the School of Music.
Siennicki pursued advanced study at Teachers College, Columbia University, earning his MA while studying composition with Herbert Elwell and electronic music with Sergio Barroso, and consulting with Vincent Persichetti. As a performer, he played bassoon and piano professionally. His compositional output includes roughly 200 published works, many award winners in National School Orchestra composition contests. He served as composer in residence at the MacDowell Colony twice and has received regular ASCAP special awards for two decades. Throughout his career, he has taught at Cleveland junior high schools and held faculty positions at Michigan and Kent State University. He continues to compose, visit schools, and lead clinics.
