Deke Sharon

Deke Sharon began his performance career at age 8 in San Francisco, eventually sharing stages with opera legends like Pavarotti before establishing himself as the foundational architect of modern a cappella. He created the dense, layered vocal-instrumental sound that defines contemporary a cappella and spread it globally through his work with the House Jacks, the ensemble he founded and directed. The House Jacks performed alongside Ray Charles, James Brown, and The Temptations across eight albums and numerous international tours, including multiple Carnegie Hall appearances.

Beyond performance, Sharon has shaped the entire landscape of a cappella culture. He founded the Contemporary A Cappella Society while in college and launched transformative institutions including the CARAs, ICCAs, BOCA, and the A Cappella Summit. He produced The Sing-Off for television networks worldwide and served as arranger and vocal producer for Universal's Pitch Perfect films. With over 2,000 published arrangements to his name and a 2012 instructional book on a cappella arranging, Sharon stands as the field's most prolific arranger.
