Why we love this

Kinyon and Anzalone designed this method specifically to maximize results when teaching time is tight. The Breeze-Easy approach cuts through busywork and focuses every exercise on building genuine musicianship, which means your students hear progress immediately and stay engaged.

What to expect

The Breeze-Easy approach feels uncluttered and purposeful. Each exercise builds logically on what came before, so students develop confidence quickly rather than feeling lost in unnecessary detail.

Who it's for

This method works for beginning trombone and baritone students in school band programs or private lessons, particularly when you need to move efficiently through fundamentals without sacrificing musical growth. It's equally suited to group instruction and one-on-one teaching.

How to get the most out of it

  • Establish a consistent embouchure from day one by having students buzz on the mouthpiece before picking up the instrument; this foundation makes every subsequent lesson clearer.
  • Play through the exercises alongside your students during early lessons so they hear the target sound and understand phrasing, not just mechanics.
  • Break longer exercises into smaller sections if a student struggles; master a four-bar phrase before moving to eight.
  • Use a tuner or reference recording when introducing new notes so students develop an ear for pitch accuracy alongside slide position or valve coordination.

How to use it

Use this as your primary method text for all beginning brass students on trombone and baritone. The 32-page format moves students through fundamentals at a pace that lets you integrate them into full band within the first year, making it ideal for programs where beginners join ensemble by fall.

Skills your students will build

  • Basic embouchure formation and breath support
  • Slide position accuracy and intonation control on trombone
  • Reading bass clef and treble clef notation
  • Tonguing and articulation
  • Simple melodic phrasing and musical expression
  • Rhythmic reading in common meters
