About the Composer: Brian Balmages
Brian Balmages has built a reputation as a composer and conductor equally comfortable in orchestral, band, and chamber settings. His works have reached stages from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House, performed by ensembles spanning from professional orchestras to elementary school groups. He received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association and won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest. An elected member of the American Bandmasters Association, he holds the inaugural James Madison University Distinguished Alumni Award and has been commissioned by the University of Miami for major institutional events.
As a conductor, Balmages maintains active guest relationships with all-state ensembles, university bands, and professional groups worldwide. His conducting appearances include the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, and the American School Band Directors Association National Conference. His music was performed at the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service. Currently, he leads MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
