About the Composer: Pepper Choplin

Pepper Choplin brings formal training in composition from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary to a career that spans worship leadership, conducting, and performance across genres from classical to bluegrass. His portfolio includes over two hundred anthems and seven choral musicals, many of which emerged directly from the creative needs of Greystone Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he serves as Minister of Music.
Choplin's work reaches audiences through workshops and conducting events nationwide, where his blend of inspirational and humorous material generates both laughter and tears. He has released multiple recordings, including Hold On, a collection of his most beloved inspirational compositions. His fundamental aim as a creator remains constant: to write music that draws people into worship with dramatic power and conviction.
Why we love this
Choplin understands that a strong graduation or benediction anthem needs both musical substance and emotional accessibility. The lush melody here lands without pretense, and the part-writing stays manageable for singers who need to focus on text delivery rather than wrestling with technical complexity. Having the orchestrated option as a built-in alternative means you can scale this from intimate a cappella performance to a full accompaniment depending on your context and resources.
What to expect
This anthem unfolds like a personal testimony expressed through melody. The combination of heartfelt text and generous melodic phrases creates space for listeners to connect their own faith journeys to what they hear. There is nothing rushed or overwrought about it; instead, the music allows each word to settle into the listener's heart.
Who it's for
Singers at church services, community choruses, and school choral programs seeking meaningful repertoire for transitions, farewells, and moments of reflection. Directors programming for graduations, church anniversaries, and benediction services will find a piece that speaks directly to milestone moments while remaining within the technical reach of committed amateur singers.
How to get the most out of it
- Shape the melody through its arc rather than treating it as a series of separate phrases. Let the text's message about God's love unfold naturally across the entire piece.
- Balance the accompaniment so that singers feel supported without being obscured. The lush orchestration works best when it frames the vocal line rather than competing with it.
- Rehearse with both the recorded accompaniment and the instrumental option early. Singers often need time to adjust their listening and intonation when switching between different accompaniment textures.
How to use it
Anchor a graduation concert's final moments with this piece, letting it send students out with both encouragement and spiritual grounding. Alternatively, use it as the benediction itself in a worship service, allowing the Scripture text to resonate as your final musical statement. It also fits naturally into spring or end-of-year programming when choirs often reflect on growth and community.
