About the Composer: Mark Williams

Mark Williams shaped generations of young musicians through his prolific output of accessible band and orchestra repertoire. His deep roots in elementary band instruction informed his compositional voice: he understood exactly what young players could achieve and how to write music that challenged them meaningfully without overwhelming them. As co-author of the Accent on Achievement Band Method, Williams created resources used in countless classrooms across North America.

Beyond the page, Williams was a tireless advocate for school music. He worked as a clinician and guest conductor across 34 states, five Canadian provinces, and Australia, bringing his expertise directly to festivals and rehearsal rooms. A skilled bassoon performer himself, he served as both conductor and artistic director for the Spokane British Brass Band while maintaining an active career as an arranger for the 560th Air Force Band. His accolades, including the Gralia Competition award and multiple ASCAP Special Awards, reflected a career built on deep musicianship and generosity toward the teaching profession.
