About the Composer: JaRod Hall
JaRod Hall studied music education at the University of North Texas and earned his master's degree from Texas State University, where he worked with conductors Nicholas Williams and Caroline Beatty as well as composers Michael Ippolito and Jack Wilds. A dedicated band director for eight years, he led his students to consistent sweepstakes awards at Texas UIL evaluations, and his 2018 non-varsity band at Griffin Middle School in Frisco became the first middle school ensemble in the district to earn the state Citation of Excellence.
As a performer, Hall has worked with the North Texas Wind Symphony, the 3 O'Clock Lab Band, and Texas State's wind ensembles, where he served as principal tuba for two years. He earned four consecutive Texas All-State Band selections (2007-2009 on tuba; 2010 as first-chair jazz bass trombone) and performed with the 2014 Disneyland All-American College Band. His compositions have appeared on the Texas Prescribed Music List and the J.W. Pepper Editor's Choice list, and his grade 2 work "Through the Storm" won the 2021 Barbara Buehlman Prize for middle school band.
