About the Composer: Michael Oare
Michael Oare trained in composition and music education at Old Dominion University and spent 33 years leading the band program at Great Bridge Middle School in Chesapeake, Virginia. During his tenure, his ensembles earned superior ratings consistently, including 30 straight years of superior marks on grade 3 and 4 concert assessments. His work has been featured in GIA Publications' respected Teaching Music Through Performance series.
Beyond the classroom, Oare maintains an active presence as a composer, arranger, conductor, and adjudicator. He currently leads the Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia Concert Band and performs with the Virginia Wind Symphony. His contributions to music education have earned him recognition as the 2016 Chesapeake Public Schools Middle School Teacher of the Year, two National Band Association Citations of Excellence, and multiple inclusions in Who's Who Among America's Teachers.
