Description
American Indian Melodies, Op. 11 was composed in 1901 by Arthur Farwell (1872-1952), one of the leading figures in the early American nationalist movement in music. Deeply influenced by ethnological studies and Native American song transcriptions collected by anthropologist Alice C. Fletcher and others, Farwell sought to create a distinctly American art music rooted in Indigenous melodies rather than European models. American Indian Melodies continues to occupy an important historical place in American music history. Songs included: 1. Approach of the Thunder God; 2. The Old Man's Love Song; 3. Song of the Deathless Voice; 4. Ichibuzzhi; 5. The Mother's Vow; 6. Inketunga's Thunder Song; 7. Song of the Ghost Dance; 8. Song to the Spirit; 9. Song of the Leader; 10. Choral. Reprint edition.
