About the Composer: Mark Williams
Mark Williams built his reputation as one of the most prolific composers for school bands, with over 200 published works spanning band, orchestra, and choral literature. A Chicago native who spent his formative years in Spokane, Washington, he devoted much of his career to elementary band instruction while maintaining an active schedule as a clinician and guest conductor across 34 states, five Canadian provinces, and Australia. His credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Master of Education from Eastern Washington University, and he served as woodwind performer and arranger for the 560th Air Force Band.
Williams' compositions earned significant recognition, including the Western International Band Clinic's Gralia Competition award and multiple ASCAP Special Awards. Beyond his compositional work, he was an accomplished bassoon performer and led the Spokane British Brass Band as conductor and artistic director. His fingerprints appear on generations of band students' music stands, most notably through his co-authorship of the Accent on Achievement Band Method, a foundational resource in instrumental music education.
