About the Arranger: Joel Raney
Joel Raney's musical formation began at the piano before formal training could begin, shaped early on by the gospel tradition of rural Alabama churches. This foundational language permeates everything he writes. He earned his bachelor's degree in choral conducting from the University of North Alabama, then pursued advanced keyboard studies at Juilliard, grounding his compositional work in both liturgical sensibility and sophisticated harmonic thinking.
Since 1999, Raney has established himself as one of the most prolific voices in church music, with over 300 published titles primarily through Hope Publishing, where he serves as Editor. His portfolio spans choral anthems, musicals, cantatas, handbell works, and instrumental compositions. Beyond the church music world, he has conducted national tours of Broadway productions, scored more than 2000 commercials and short films, and maintains an active performance schedule as a piano soloist and collaborative artist. He currently serves as Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Oak Park, Illinois.
