Joel Raney's musical foundation was built at a piano keyboard before he could read, shaped early by the gospel traditions he heard in an Alabama Baptist church. That formative influence threads through everything he writes. He studied choral conducting at the University of North Alabama, then earned a master's degree in piano performance at Juilliard, a combination that informs both the harmonic sophistication and the singability of his arrangements.

Since 1999, Raney has established himself as one of the most prolific voices in contemporary church music, with over 300 published titles. Working as Editor at Hope Publishing, he brings years of experience as a choral clinician, keyboard performer, and theater music director (with recognition in both Chicago and Los Angeles).
