Joel Raney's musical journey began at the piano before formal training, shaped by the gospel traditions of a rural Alabama Baptist church. That foundation became his signature voice. After earning a bachelor's degree in choral conducting from the University of North Alabama, he pursued advanced keyboard study at Juilliard, developing the technical sophistication that now distinguishes his nearly 300 published works.
Since 1999, Raney has become a defining figure in church music publishing, serving as Editor at Hope Publishing while maintaining an extraordinary catalog of anthems, cantatas, musicals, and instrumental works. His versatility extends across classical and jazz performance, Broadway conducting, film scoring (over 2000 television and radio commercials), and piano recital work. He remains an active clinician and performs nationally as both solo pianist and in duo-concert with organist Jane Holstein.
