Dr. Willard Palmer stands as an internationally celebrated musician, educator, and scholar who created an extraordinary catalog of over 789 compositions. His prolific output spans accordion methods, piano instruction books, guitar methods, Hammond Chord Organ techniques, solo pieces, and choral works. These publications have reached audiences across the globe, with translations available in German, Japanese, French, Dutch, and Spanish.
Palmer's musical journey began remarkably early; he performed piano on radio broadcasts at just 13 years old and studied under Mae Vardeman, whose mentorship in proper technique and improvisation proved foundational to his career. He continued his dual keyboard pursuits through college years at Whitworth College and Millsaps College, where he remained active on radio programs and in campus ensembles. His formal training culminated in studies at the Leipzig Conservatory in Germany on a prestigious two-year scholarship, followed by advanced work at the University of Houston.
Throughout his distinguished career, Palmer served for 18 years as a faculty member at the University of Houston, pioneering the first successful collegiate accordion courses. As a respected authority on Baroque music ornamentation, his scholarly research became the foundation for the celebrated Alfred Masterworks publication series. His contributions to musicology earned him a Doctor of Humanities degree in 1971 and a Doctor of Music degree in 1983. Palmer held the position of director at the Riemenschneider Bach Institute and maintained long-term service as choir director of Memorial Lutheran Church in Houston while holding membership in the American Federation of Musicians, American Accordionists' Association, and ASCAP.

Morton Manus served as president of Alfred Music Publishing Co., Inc. for over six decades, from 1952 to 2016. He inherited the company from his father Sam, who founded Manus Music in 1922 as a Tin Pan Alley sheet music publisher and later merged it with Alfred & Company in 1930. A trained clarinetist and pianist with a business degree from City College of New York, Morty joined the family enterprise in the late 1940s.
Under Morty's leadership, Alfred Music transformed from a popular sheet music house into an educational powerhouse. Beginning in the 1950s, he developed groundbreaking instructional series for accordion, guitar, piano, and recorder that established the company's reputation for quality music education products. The company's expansion reflected this new direction, growing substantially through the 1960s and 1970s until 1975, when operations relocated to Los Angeles with a distribution center in upstate New York.

Her educational credentials include a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance, a Bachelor of Music Education degree, and a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from Northwestern University. She also earned an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree from Whitworth College in Brookhaven, Mississippi. In her studies, she worked with renowned musicians including James Friskin at Juilliard, Rudolph Ganz at Chicago Musical College, and Douglas Moore at Columbia University.
Beyond her foundational work on Alfred's Basic Piano Library, Dr. Lethco co-authored Creating Music at the Piano with Dr. Palmer.
