Why we love this
These arrangements speak directly to what early-level students want to play. Worship music carries emotional resonance that motivates practice in ways generic method-book examples cannot, and the page-by-page correlation with Lesson Book 1A means you're reinforcing new technical concepts while students experience immediate musical payoff.
What to expect
Joyful and accessible. These arrangements preserve the emotional warmth of familiar worship melodies while respecting the technical limits of early learners. Students feel capable and connected to music that already lives in their ears and hearts.
Who it's for
Beginning piano students (typically ages 5-8) who have started Level 1A of Alfred's Basic Piano Library. This book works best for students who respond to contemporary repertoire and whose families attend or value worship music settings.
How to get the most out of it
- Pay attention to hand position in pieces that move between treble and bass clefs. These arrangements use both registers to keep early-level students engaged, so frame position changes as natural extensions of what they're learning in the lesson book.
- Encourage students to listen to the original recordings of these worship songs before or after learning them. Familiarity with the melody and emotional content deepens their connection to the printed page.
- Balance the melody with gentle accompaniment in pieces that feature block chords or simple ostinatos. At this level, clarity in the right hand matters most, but a supported harmonic foundation helps students hear the complete picture.
How to use it
Assign pieces from this book in tandem with the Lesson Book 1A to reinforce concepts as they emerge (the page-by-page correlation makes this straightforward). These pieces work as performance material for studio recitals or informal church music events, giving early students a concrete reason to practice with intention.
