About the Authors
Martha Mier is an internationally recognized composer and clinician who has been with Alfred Music Publishing since 1989. Her educational piano compositions for students at all levels have established her as one of the most sought-after composers working today. Her popular series include Jazz, Rags & Blues and Romantic Impressions, which students around the world regularly perform.
A graduate of Florida State University and member of Sigma Alpha Iota, Mier brings extensive professional credentials to her work. She holds state and national teaching certifications through the Music Teachers National Association, the Florida State Music Teachers Association, and the National Guild of Piano Teachers. Many of her solos and collections have been selected for the National Federation of Music Clubs Junior Festival Bulletin, and she is a co-author of Alfred's Premier Piano Course as well as more than 200 additional educational piano publications.
Throughout her career, Mier has maintained a piano studio in Lake City, Florida, where she also served as a church musician and professional accompanist. She appears regularly as a clinician and adjudicator, leading workshops in Australia, New Zealand, and across the United States at venues including the Music Teachers National Association Conference, the National Piano Teachers Institute, and the World Piano Pedagogy Conference.

June C. Montgomery is an honor graduate of Florida State University who has spent more than 20 years teaching private piano lessons and six years instructing elementary school music. Her dedication to music education earned her recognition as an Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America and membership in Delta Kappa Gamma while teaching at the elementary level.
Montgomery has authored numerous publications for Alfred Publishing Company, including the FUNdamental Musicianship Skills series, the Piano Camp series, and Theory Through the Year for Alfred's Basic Piano Library. She co-authored the Meet the Great Composers books with Maurice Hinson and collaborated with Martha Mier on the Musical Concepts series, in addition to composing many piano solos for the publisher.
Beyond her writing and teaching, Montgomery serves as a clinician at district and state conventions throughout Florida and has presented at the Glover International Workshop in Virginia and Music Teachers National Association conventions. She remains active in Presbyterian Church music as a pianist and director of children's choirs, and she serves as carillonneur at the Stephen Foster Memorial.
