• Start with the demo track at normal speed to absorb the melodic shape, comping texture, and drum pocket. Listen actively for how the piano voices its chords and where the bass walks or locks into quarter-note feel.
• Use the play-along track with your part removed to locate your entry points and feel the ensemble's breathing. Pause between tunes and reflect on what the horn player did differently on the demo versus your interpretation.
• Practice the written-out comping and bass lines as written first, then gradually personalize them. This approach builds a vocabulary of idiomatic phrasing before you improvise.

Assign one standard per rehearsal week as a small-group breakout activity while the full band works on concert repertoire.
