John Kinyon earned degrees from Ithaca College and the Eastman School of Music, along with an honorary doctorate from Limestone College in South Carolina. His career in music education spans decades: he directed instrumental programs and music departments in public schools, served as educational director for Warner Brothers Music in New York, and held a faculty position in music education at the University of Miami.
Kinyon has established himself as one of the most prolific composers of educational band music, with over 250 published works for Alfred spanning grades 1 through 3. His catalogue includes original marches, ballads, and overtures written across multiple styles. Since 1982, he has continued composing from his home in Tuckasegee, North Carolina.
